Review: Cake at Murchie’s

by gigi on August 8, 2007

I had never tried the desserts at Murchie’s before but my aunt brought some to our house for dessert on the weekend. Murchie’s is a fine tea and coffee company that sells mostly to commercial customers but also has a couple of retail locations. The cake we tried was from the Murchie’s in Oakridge mall.

My aunt bought the Marie Antoinette cake, which was very pretty looking with a pink frosting on the outside, which was described as a rose almond paste with a marzipan flower.

Inside was a vanilla sponge cake soaked in orange brandy layered with cream cheese and raspberry sauce.

Normally, I find cakes like this too sweet but this cake tasted great. The cream cheese and raspberry filling added the perfect contrast the sweet icing and vanilla cake. It was especially good when paired with a nice cup of tea or coffee.

This was a great introduction to the cakes at Murchie’s and I would definitely want to try their other cakes sometime! Twelve of us shared the 6″ cake, which was $21.99.
