After Jenkins and I came back to Vancouver from our Seattle trip, it was the actual day of our anniversary. We had been eating out quite a bit in Seattle so we didn’t want to spend too much money for our anniversary dinner. I suggested that since it was a Tuesday evening, we should go to Q4 for $10 pasta night. I had heard really good things about Q4 so I was quite eager to check it out.
We arrived at about 7PM and although it was busy, there were still a few tables open. I had made reservations via Open Table in advance though because I wasn’t sure how busy it would be. After settling down, we were presented with some bread.
Of course, I had perused the menu prior to coming to Q4 but I still had a tough time deciding on what to order. I decided on the Fettuccine ai Funghi, which had wild mushrooms, minced chicken and pancetta in a rosato sauce. For some reason, I missed out on the fact that the chicken was minced so I was a bit surprised when my dish arrived. The pasta was well-made and surprisingly heavy but I really enjoyed the abundance of mushrooms. The fettuccine itself was a little past al dente but still had a nice texture to it.
Jenkins chose the Linguine Vongole Pomodoro, which had baby clams in a white wine pomodoro with basil. Jenkins was a bit surprised to see that none of his clams came in the shell but then again, that just made the process of eating easier for him. I liked Jenkins’ choice more, which I felt was better made than mine. The linguine was more al dente than my fettuccini and the light wine sauce went well with the delicate clams.
Jenkins and I were quite full from our pastas but we decided to share dessert anyway since we passed on an anniversary cake this year. We opted for the tiramisu after much deliberation on what to order. The tiramisu was quite light but I felt it was kind of lacklustre. I would have liked for the flavour from the coffee liqueur to be stronger but overall, it wasn’t too bad.
Overall, I quite enjoyed our meal at Q4. The pastas were pretty well made and I would like to come back to try some of their other dishes. Our server seemed to be quite busy serving several tables so never seemed to have quite the time to check how our dishes were and if we needed anything. I’m not sure if this is just the norm for all nights or if it’s only a weekday occurrence. At only $10 for their pasta on Mondays to Wednesdays though, I really must say that it’s a fantastic deal for a high-end restaurant like Q4.
