Jenkins and I were shopping on Commercial Drive one day and decided to stop in at La Grotto Del Formaggio for lunch. I had heard about how tasty the sandwiches were there and had wanted to give it a try for quite a while.
La Grotto Del Formaggio is actually a small Italian grocery store with a deli tucked away at the back. There is quite a selection of different sandwiches that you can order so it took Jenkins and me a while to figure out what we wanted. We decided to split a whole focaccia sandwich between the two of us. Our sandwich had prociutto and I decided to add lettuce, tomatoes, olives, and the house sauce to it as well.
After a brief wait as our panini was being grilled, we took it outside and were lucky enough to find a seat at one of the two tables in front. Our sandwich was crispy from being grilled and the flavours all went very well together. Because I was a bit overzealous with my sandwich condiments, it was quite messy to eat. Sharing the whole sandwich between Jenkins and me was more than enough even though we were both quite hungry that day.

They make such wonderful sandwiches and good value too! I need to get one soon. On that note, have you ever been to Salumi in Seattle. I’ve been getting grief about not liking it. However, people need to try other sandwiches places like Grotta to see that there are good sandwiches found elsewhere.
Mmm, so delicious. La Grotta is near my work, so I treat myself to a decadent sandwich at lunchtime every now and then. Yummy!
@Sherman – nope, haven’t been to Salumi yet but I remember reading your post! I never actually make it to Seattle (I always get sidetracked by the outlets
) but the next time I’m there, I’ll have to give Salumi a try
@Samantha – I know, they’re quite tasty and best eaten right away!
