Review: Lunch at Players Chophouse

by gigi on July 15, 2009

I’m working downtown a lot more these days so Samantha and I decided to meet up for lunch on one of those occasions. We were trying to figure out where we should eat and Samantha suggested going to Players Chophouse near BC Place. She had been there quite a few times with her co-workers and thought I would enjoy some of their lunch options. Hardly one to turn down yummy food, I readily agreed. :) Although it was fairly empty when we went for lunch around noon, I suspect that Players Chophouse must get very busy during game or concert nights at BC Place of GM Place.

Since Samantha was kind of a regular at Players, I let her do the ordering. She suggested ordering the salmon burger and the prime rib burger and we could split them in half and share. More variety is always good in my books so I quite liked her suggestion. We were attempting to be healthy that day so we both ordered green salads so we didn’t have to split those.

The salmon burger was actually a salmon fillet rather than a mashed up salmon patty. It was simply seasoned with salt and pepper and came with a generous dollop of garlicky mayo. The salmon itself was super moist and flaky, which contrasted well with the toasty crispy bun. I enjoyed this burger quite a bit more than I expected.

The prime rib burger looked like a regular burger and while it was not bad, I definitely liked the salmon burger more. The patty itself was quite large and I liked how the cheddar cheese was completely melted. It was pretty regular tasting though and I don’t have much to say about it.

Our burgers were both pretty reasonably priced at $14. Samantha told me that in terms of value, lunch is a better deal than coming here for dinner. If you are in the mood for a burger, I’d definitely go for the salmon burger over the prime rib burger.
