Review: Urban Sushi

by gigi on January 5, 2009

I was downtown for a work-related course one day and when it was time to break for lunch, one of my classmates suggested Urban Sushi. I usually end up eating in one of the food courts by default when I’m on course because I have only limited time for lunch so the prospect of having sushi appealed to me. :) It was only a block away and luckily for us, we got there just before the lunch rush.

Urban Sushi is actually located underground and as soon as you walk through the front door, you descent down a flight of stairs where you will find several tables and a cafeteria-style sushi joint.

Although you can order a-la-carte rolls and other items, most people tended to order one of the several combos or lunch boxes since that seemed to be one of the fastest options.

I decided on a sushi roll combo with a California roll, salmon roll, and sushi roll. At $7.25, it was fairly reasonable for downtown. Although there was nothing stand out-ish about the sushi, the fish was quite fresh and was enough to satisfy my sushi craving that day.

Victoria and John ordered the Box B bento boxes, which contained California rolls, tempura, chicken teriyaki, and green salad. Everything in the box looked quite fresh and both John and Victoria seemed to enjoy their boxes enough. :) These boxes were $8.95, which was also fairly reasonable.

Urban Sushi seemed to be pretty busy and quite popular with the downtown lunch crowd. Although it certainly isn’t a place I would go for a fancy sushi meal, it was one of the better casual sushi places I’ve been able to find downtown. Although I’ve never been, it also looks like there is a Granville location (562 Granville St) as well.
